I was misplaced there once, and my family thought I must have been kidnapped. When I finally spoke to my son I asked how much ransom they had been willing to pay. He replied without hesitation, "This family doesn't negotiate with terrorists." What a kidder, that boy of mine.David Deanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13005457506363262838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-59134208380571221422015-05-31T18:21:53.794-04:002015-05-31T18:21:53.794-04:00YOU are a great travel writer! About 8 or 9 years after your train trip, I drove from Nuevo Laredo down to Monterrey on Highway One and over to Saltillo. Every 20 to 30 miles had a sand bagged military road block where every vehicle was checked inside and out. If your luggage had the right chalk mark on it from an officer (compliments of a tip) at the previous road block, then its contents didn't get checked again.<br />Unfortunately, my first train ride was paid for by Uncle Sam in January 1966 when I rode from Wichita to Kansas City for my induction physical. The passenger cars for that section of rail had sadly deteriorated. R.T.
