As I said to Jacqueline above, it would be great to be able to do a blind submission, even if for part of it, but we just don’t have the resources for that.

Thanks, Steve. And like you, I’ve been on the other end too, where I’ve known the editor/s, have written in the field, and thought I would have been a good choice, but didn’t get asked. I guess we just have to not take it personally, which I know is easier said than done. Personally, I hate hurting people’s feelings and leaving people out, but as I explained in the blog post there’s a lot of different reasons that go into it. Plus, I’m not the only one doing the choosing. It’s hard being on both sides, believe me (though I feel funny using that expression…). As for hearing about antholgies, do you subscribe to My Little Corner from Sandra Seamans. She puts out e-mails with lots of open calls: http://sandraseamans.blogspot.com/ -- And, as you say, there is no easy solution.

Thank you, R.T. I appreciate it.

Thanks, Eve.

Thanks, Elizabeth. In answer to your question, I’m pretty new to it. But we have had to ask for revisions when something didn’t work well. So far haven’t rejected anything outright though and I hope we don’t have to.

Thanks, B.K.

Thanks, Madeleine. Like everything, it has its pluses and minuses :-)
Paul D. There was a blind submission process as part of that project, so slightly different than your experiences here--and part of the fun there was discovering that a couple of my own favorite short stories writers had risen to the top of the blind judging when the names were revealed, in fact a couple of SleuthSayers there as well, Rob Lopresti and B.K. Stevens. But we also had an invitation side to the anthology too, with stories by the Bouchercon guests of honor, so I got a taste of working in that direction too: asking a writer for a story, working with them on changes in some cases, trying to get the right mix of writers and stories overall. Would love to do it again someday!

In the meantime, looking forward to this collection--and again congrats to you and all the contributors here in pub week!
Art Taylorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02409008167752619352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-50689810709853424262017-01-31T08:57:36.481-05:002017-01-31T08:57:36.481-05:00Paul, this is a great look inside the job of editi...Paul, this is a great look inside the job of editing an anthology.

Like O'Neil, I'm proud to have been featured here, among so many of my favorite crime writers.
