I've only personally known a habitual liar. He worked for my husband, a commercial construction superintendent, as the job's labor foreman. Did a great job but would lie over even small things that made no difference to anyone. No harm, no profit, no problems for trouble. Just lied.
THERE is one other kind of lie. "Lying For The Lord." Rather than hole up and hide with his ill-gotten millions, Rick Scott brazenly bought his way into politics and the highest office in Florida.

While gender difference can be statistically distinct, it’s important to understand there’s considerable overlap. For example, both are equally liable to lie for profit. (“That lottery ticket is really mine.”) Even so, men and women lie in different ways and often for different reasons.

According to that same psychologist, women may lie to get someone else into trouble, e.g, for vengeance or spite. (“I saw Ellie leave a bar with another man.”) Men lie to get out of trouble. (“No, I wasn’t at a bar or with Ellie.”) Women lie better with more forethought, but when caught, will sooner own up than men will. Men construct poorer lies but when caught, tend to cling to their falsehoods.Leigh Lundinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07921276795499571578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-90125551219730370122016-03-20T13:14:19.204-04:002016-03-20T13:14:19.204-04:00Someone said in reference to a distant cousin of a...Someone said in reference to a distant cousin of a friend, "He would rather climb a tree to tell a lie than stand on the ground and tell the truth."Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00239163766419735693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-54827900999339659532016-03-20T13:12:48.221-04:002016-03-20T13:12:48.221-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18211113589300842194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-51500462758175386402016-03-20T12:19:31.095-04:002016-03-20T12:19:31.095-04:00“…Florida…. formerly a haven for con artists and s...“…Florida…. formerly a haven for con artists and scammers…”

formally? Ha! I tried to help him a couple of times with disastrous results. Given a choice of telling the truth or lying, he would lie. I can’t say whether or not he lied for pleasure, but lying was habitual for him.

A psychologist told me that compulsive liars (as opposed to pleasure liars) usually grow up in harsh, unstable families. The child learns that truth can bring punishment, so by lying well enough, they may avoid punishment. They carry this into adulthood.

By the way, men and women lie in different ways and for different reasons.Leigh Lundinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07921276795499571578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-57459980800594442982016-03-20T10:36:48.404-04:002016-03-20T10:36:48.404-04:00I've known two confirmed liars and I don't...I've known two confirmed liars and I don't get them at all.
