He wants that constant togetherness & I really don't. It was worse when we lived in a small apartment. Now we live in a big house & I have a little office in the back. I'd probably hang out here some even if I didn't write anything at all.Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00239163766419735693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-75491020279588994432020-08-24T10:46:08.173-04:002020-08-24T10:46:08.173-04:00I usually write to silence. Though like Michael, I sometimes play music to mask outside sounds. I used to write by music all the time, but these days I would prefer silence. And I also can't write in public places, too much distraction.Paul D. My story "An Unhealthy Death" (Mystery Weekly, August 2016) was written at a wine fest. I don't drink wine, so I held our place at a table while my wife and two of our friends made the rounds sampling various wines. I thumb-typed most of the story into my phone, based on an idea that came from breakfast conversation with our friends. Usually, though, all the commotion around me prevents me from concentrating.

On the other hand, complete silence does not work well either, because it's never completely silent. So, I often keep music playing while I write. It masks the little sounds that might distract me—the cat disgorging a hairball, the refrigerator making an odd sound, voices from outside, the television, etc.Michael Brackenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01072019804281421944noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-51943599951987205332020-08-24T00:58:44.227-04:002020-08-24T00:58:44.227-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.John smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07455859438302091504noreply@blogger.com
