It's sad, but darkness is not a woman's friend. Go out with a big, ugly guy, walk with girlfriends, take a taxi, carry pepper spray, but try not to go out alone at night.

When I worked in NYC, my employer (IBM) laid down a rule: Any woman who worked after a certain hour was required to take a cab home, no exceptions. The result: No unwanted advances on the subway, no scary words on the street, no assaults. It worked.Leigh Lundinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07921276795499571578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-38822693515459315912018-06-17T14:02:19.029-04:002018-06-17T14:02:19.029-04:00Excellent post and very timely (and, unfortunately...Excellent post and very timely (and, unfortunately, also timeless).

When I taught, it never ceased to both amaze and depress me how many female students had to cope with sexual comments in the halls of the school...and how many of them seemed to put up with it. The first time I told a male student in my classroom that I found his behavior offensive, he looked at me like I'd grown antlers.

You can only do so much, but your comments would be a strong and positive first step. Maybe the Me Too movement will generate enough support to make a difference. I hope so.
Steve Liskowhttp://www.steveliskow.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-35963264330264675522018-06-17T12:56:03.662-04:002018-06-17T12:56:03.662-04:00Excellent post. When I first became a detective, I was assigned to the OFFENSE AGAINST PERSON Section which investigated homicides, armed robberies and sex crimes (20th Century labels). Your posting is spot on.
