And there are too damn many of them. And, for all those who think that I only care about people of color, there's always the white Daniel Shaver, unarmed, in a hotel hallway, on his knees begging and sobbing for his life - but the cop shot him to death anyway. The Seminole sheriff's sniper killed the boy because, they said, they had no way of knowing for sure. I heard not a peep of objection, but I thought the department had the advantage of so many options, including body armor and especially time. Without an immediate threat, why were they in such a hurry? What did it matter if waiting out the kid took twenty minutes or twenty hours? It galls me the community thought that was okay.

Congratulations on the story, Eve!Leigh Lundinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07921276795499571578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-7521352232904396072021-04-22T14:14:23.596-04:002021-04-22T14:14:23.596-04:00Eve, I was a little surprised by the statistics in...Eve, I was a little surprised by the statistics in the e blog Great job and CONGRATULAIONS on your publications. With police...Yes, we can do a lot better than this. With police, the BIG problem starts with training. We used to train officers to be peace officers. We now train them as military personnel because we live in a gun society. As the poet Brian Bilston says, “America is a gun.” A gun should be an officer’s last resort, not the quick resort.O'Neil De Nouxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03142721824657611738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-80416815099551695172021-04-22T07:25:35.033-04:002021-04-22T07:25:35.033-04:00the chart is particularly enlightening.
