What troubles me most about the current virulence of anti-Semitism is that Jews are excluded from the diversity conversation. Apparently we are "other" to all comers, not only the usual hate-filled suspects. I am committed to speaking up about this, because no one else is saying it.Elizabeth Zelvinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13944424094949207841noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-24423345438689030672021-12-13T08:36:58.276-05:002021-12-13T08:36:58.276-05:00"If you think they will like us better if we ..."If you think they will like us better if we behave you better you do not understand anti-Semitism at all." This also applies to racism, misogyny and every other prejudice. We need to always remember that the words, "Well, most of them are awful, but YOU'RE different" is not a compliment, it's a warning. (See his excellent blog 'EVERY GODDAMN DAY.") He says that every time he criticizes one of his fellow Jews ther Jews complain that he is giving the anti-Semites ammunition. He rePlies, approximately "If you think they will like us better if we behave you better you do not understand anti-Semitism at all." I think it might have been the Dead Sea Scrolls or other desert scroll collection that revealed Paulines aggressively opposed the followers of James (brother of Jesus) in political struggle for power and succeeded in dominating the church as the James' influence waned.Leigh Lundinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07921276795499571578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-88037902215466105452021-12-12T09:46:28.901-05:002021-12-12T09:46:28.901-05:00Anti-Semitism has a horrible history that goes bac...Anti-Semitism has a horrible history that goes back to the New Testament: the "blood curse" in Matthew; 1 Thess. 2:14-16, where [former] Jewish leader Paul rails against the Jews for killing Christ; and from then on, there it was, baked in and rotting away. Throughout the Middle Ages, whenever there was a plague or a pestilence, they expelled or killed Jews. Forced conversions. Centuries of it. It's hideous, insidious, and it doesn't help that, with the Internet, anti-Semitic literature (old and new) gets replicated with ease.
