Funny!
I confess to b...> … love at first write

Funny!

I confess to being a grumpy hard-ass when it comes to paranormal mysteries. It didn't help that girlfriends and daughters of girlfriends dragged me to vampire movies and werewolf movies (although I really liked Ginger Snaps.)

The question that resounded in my mind was how can one devise a logical mystery when the premise is fanciful? (Damn it, Jim. It's that damn Vulcan DNA.)

Then I sat down to read stories in an anthology one of mine appeared in. One particular tale was a vampire paranormal. Bloody hell… it was logical! Science fiction operates within their laws of physics and society. Likewise, this paranormal entry defined the vampire laws of nature and then, like any good fair-play solution, it abided by its self-imposed rules and turned out an excellent mystery indeed. I finally got it.

TK, forgive this question, but did your close-up experience of what humans do to one another perhaps influence your paranormal writing?

Thank you very much for appearing. I truly enjoyed it.Leigh Lundinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07921276795499571578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-65536069357437445662019-04-26T12:51:05.779-04:002019-04-26T12:51:05.779-04:00Excellent. One of my series (actually the one that went 'gold') is epic fantasy, and I found the use of magic to be the most fascinating thing to learn. Magic MUST have limits, otherwise what's to stop the mage from killing everyone he wants immediately, and running off with the girl? No story. That's the key. You/one can create any kind of universe you want to, you just have to be true to the rules you set up for it and then you can get away with pretty much anything and people will go along and suspend that disbelief.Paul D.
