Yes, ...Jeff, I'm glad you enjoyed the article. Yes, you read Billy McCarty right, but no, he wasn't 'that' Billy. Interestingly, I ran into a similar puzzler during my research when I discovered that the Doolin Gang was also referred to as "The Wild Bunch". No, not 'that' Wild Bunch. I intentionally didn't mention it to cut down on the confusion factor. Also--way too many Bills when it comes to outlaws.

Interersting family history you have there, Jeff. And he and I are decendants of an Otho "Oath" Offutt, who was Great-great Grandpa's cousin and rode with Quantrill. (Hey, was that McCarty guy Billy the Kid? Or did I misread the name?) To add insult to injury, Elizabeth, Pretty Boy wasn't even very pretty.

It appears that I have to mea culpa about a previous post titled, "The York Boys". This was my piece on the mystery surrounding the two princes in the Tower of London. In it I posited that there was no evidence that Richard the Third was a hunchback as depicted by Shakespeare and More. Au contraire!

It appears that with the excavation and examination of a skeleton that is almost certainly Richard, I have been proven definitively wrong! He most certainly suffered from a cruel curvature of the spine. Obviously, the court portrait painters conspired to conceal this matter from me. Lesson learned--never doubt Shakespeare or St. Thomas More.David Deanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13005457506363262838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-42372950678234389842013-02-05T09:36:25.693-05:002013-02-05T09:36:25.693-05:00I wonder why it's the women SleuthSayers who a...I wonder why it's the women SleuthSayers who are checking in on this. :) I was very disappointed when I first learned that the real Pretty Boy Floyd was not the Robin Hood-like figure of the song: "As through this world I've wandered/I've met many kinds of men/Some will rob you with a six-gun/And some with a fountain pen."Elizabeth Zelvinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13944424094949207841noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-31606820087427289712013-02-05T09:12:26.401-05:002013-02-05T09:12:26.401-05:00Wow!
