I will have to look into Michael Gruber -- I've never heard of him.

Thanks for the tip!

Vorkosigrrlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-47444413446529932012-12-15T13:51:45.952-05:002012-12-15T13:51:45.952-05:00The butterbugs appear in A Civil Campaign, Dale, a...The butterbugs appear in A Civil Campaign, Dale, and they're only one of the laugh-out-loud funny scenes. But don't try to get it out of context. Start with Komarr, or maybe even one book earlier (Memory)...or two books earlier (Mirror Dance)...and by the time you get to the butterbugs, you'll really appreciate them.Elizabeth Zelvinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13944424094949207841noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-87282379193632293252012-12-15T10:22:19.162-05:002012-12-15T10:22:19.162-05:00The authors Liz has chosen for these "bookend...The authors Liz has chosen for these "bookend" articles have a particular resonance in our home. Michael Gruber, who was last saluted, is just about my favorite currently-writing author. But no one else in my family reads him. Bujold, by contrast, who I have not read, is the absolute favorite of my wife and our two sons. All you have to do at a family gathering is make reference to the "butterbug dinner" to bring down the house. Except me. I remain clueless. Perhaps I should do something about that! :-)Dale Andrewshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10553503281187956955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-47609153105235100202012-12-15T08:07:07.851-05:002012-12-15T08:07:07.851-05:00I'm just rereading this year's addition to...I'm just rereading this year's addition to the saga, Captain Vorpatril's Alliance. The protagonist this time is Miles's cousin Ivan, who features among their circle as "Ivan, you idiot," usually in comparison with the brilliant Miles. Ivan does have the family brains and a successful military career as well as good looks, and Bujold does him proud. The new book is every bit as smart, funny, lovable, and entertaining as the rest of the saga.Elizabeth Zelvinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13944424094949207841noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-63169403594214912512012-12-15T06:00:44.757-05:002012-12-15T06:00:44.757-05:00Yet another to add to my list.
