Somewhere along the line she changed from a person deserving (because of her seizures that scared most landlords) to a person demanding.

RT, squatters are a serious problem here in Florida, particularly the Lauderdale-Miami area. In some cases, owners have lost their homes when squatters gained access to their mortgage accounts. It’s nasty.

19 years, Elizabeth… that’s a pretty good indicator. Well done.

Peter, that’s good advice. Several years ago, I accepted a partial payment of rent (maybe $100) from a tenant’s lawyer. Instant mistake for the unwary: At that time, even a partial payment prevented removal of the tenant. The lawyer thought she was pretty clever– I had to start the eviction process all over again the following month. The Florida Legislature changed the statutes recently, allowing landlords to accept partial payments without jeopardizing eventual eviction.Leigh Lundinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07921276795499571578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-64184359865722698862018-12-16T15:27:50.141-05:002018-12-16T15:27:50.141-05:00Wow — I’d always heard renters (and even squatters...Wow — I’d always heard renters (and even squatters) have almost unbelievable rights once they occupy a residence, but never imagined something like this.

PS - I also hate being lied to. A tip for “liar” detecting: If you suspect someone repeatedly lies to you, always ask them a couple of (tough) questions you already know the answer to, mixed in with your “real” questions. Doesn’t detect all the “lies” but reliably detects persistent liars.Peter DiChellishttps://shortwalkdarkstreet.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-83049295517106757542018-12-16T15:23:20.701-05:002018-12-16T15:23:20.701-05:00Never been a landlord because I know better than t...Never been a landlord because I know better than that! But even though I'm a woman, I'm not always a good lie detector. So 19 years ago, when my husband first started trying to talk to me, I put him through several tests to see if he was an honest person or not. He passed every one of my tests!Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00239163766419735693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-45908314081419661262018-12-16T13:56:01.041-05:002018-12-16T13:56:01.041-05:00Leigh, up until recently, squatters could lock an ...Leigh, up until recently, squatters could lock an owner out of his own house in Colorado. Some owners coming back from extended vacations, plus military returning from an out of state posting rudely discovered they had squatters living in their house and it took many long months to get rid of them. And, after the squatters were finally gone, the house was usually trashed, to include missing plumbing and electrical parts. All the squatter had to say was that the owner verbally allowed them to stay there. For some reason, burglary and trespassing laws did not apply.R.T.
