But yeah, it's a beautiful thing, to have that common goal and support even if you never actually meet. Thanks much for this!

Oh, your upcoming conference in LA sounds terrific. Temple and I attended our first Malice Domestic this past weekend, and I was surprised by how many people I knew and how many knew me. Even more surprising was how many people knew (or knew of) Temple, even though she isn't a writer.Michael Brackenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01072019804281421944noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-90294500440783657492018-05-01T13:53:52.712-04:002018-05-01T13:53:52.712-04:00Great column, Michael. That's one of the best things, I think, about national and regional conferences--they feel like reunions, because so many of us are already acquainted with each other via our online connections.

Looking forward to seeing you in Lake Charles this fall. You have as much of a gift for these blog posts as you do for writing short stories, a master of each!

I like the idea of writing buddy and what distinguishes it from friend or critique partner or whatever--though I imagine for many of us, some of those designations might overlap. I remember the stories about Pat Conroy and Doug Marlette talking every single morning (without fail apparently) just as a way to get each of them motivated on the writing day. (Sometimes could use that myself, some kick in the pants.)

So much appreciate the perspectives here--and great seeing you and Temple at Malice!
Art Taylorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02409008167752619352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-21086737607526455892018-05-01T09:04:22.059-04:002018-05-01T09:04:22.059-04:00Great tribute, Michael.
