King has said that he meticulously researched everything in the book so I put him to the test. Yep, on Halloween of 1958 the NBC series "The Further Adventures of Ellery Queen" televised the following episode

"Cat of Many Tails"
10/31/58
With John Abbott, Paul Langton (3)

The mayor of New York City calls on Ellery to help solve a series of strangulations for which the police can find no motive but which they believe to be the work of one killer.

Hmmm. Wonder where King went to vet that factoid. No doubt to the chronicles of the Queen.Dale Andrewshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10553503281187956955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-3472021272121369152011-11-09T19:32:15.531-05:002011-11-09T19:32:15.531-05:00Dale, I really enjoyed this post. I'd tell you more -- but I'm off to take a look at that website! I don't know how I might have come up with the information otherwise, so big thanks to Dale and Kurt.Leigh Lundinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07921276795499571578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-80877792629511305072011-11-08T12:48:28.742-05:002011-11-08T12:48:28.742-05:00Not on my watch, mister--it's tough enough wit...Not on my watch, mister--it's tough enough without having the competition move into my back yard!

Actually, Doug has been kind enough to both score and narrate "Ibrahim's Eyes for a EQMM podcast. He does a great job of it and the music he composed, and plays, is wonderful. It should be posted on the EQMM site soon. It was the closest results in the history of the awards.

BTW, Doug has won so many that I would not be surprised if he used them as bricks to build a beacdh house, perhaps in Avalon, New Jersey? :-)Dale Andrewshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10553503281187956955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3119105822589181967.post-48315765198693614432011-11-08T08:34:27.768-05:002011-11-08T08:34:27.768-05:00You were right about an unlikely suspect, Dale. Are you sure it was just one point? Well, thank God for family! It should be mentioned, as well, that "Ibrahim's Eyes" tied for first with a story by the late, great Ed Hoch, who would probably have had many 'Readers Awards' over the years had he not been so prolific--he was his own competition! Perhaps someone should consider an Ed Hoch website. Now that would be a worthy project, too.David Deanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13005457506363262838noreply@blogger.com
